Cristina Cutts Dougherty

Principal Tuba of The Phoenix Symphony and tubist for Seraph Brass, Cristina Cutts Dougherty grew up in South Africa, England, New York and New Mexico. She has performed as a guest tubist with the Los Angeles Philharmonic, Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra, Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra, London Symphony Orchestra, Baltimore Symphony Orchestra, San Diego Symphony and the Louisville Orchestra. She has also held the position of Acting Principal Tuba for the Britt Festival Orchestra since 2022. Cristina was the 2016 Young Artist winner of the International Tuba Euphonium Competition, and the first tubist in the history of the Pasadena Showcase Competition to win their Grand Prize. She has appeared as a soloist in the Kennedy Center, with the Colburn Orchestra, and on the radio show Performance Today with Fred Child. In 2021, she received an Alumni Enterprise Award from Music Academy of the West, and is a proud recipient of several grants from the Sphinx Organization. Cristina is a graduate of the Interlochen Arts Academy, the Colburn School and the Curtis Institute of Music. Her primary teachers include Richard Antoine White, Thomas Riccobono, Norman Pearson, Paul Krzywicki and Craig Knox.
