Euphonium

Finnish euphonium virtuoso, pedagogue, trombone player, and conductor Jukka Myllys M.Mus. is one of the most versatile artists of his generation. As his main job, he plays trombone in the Oulu Symphony. The lighter side of this multifaceted musician includes trombone and euphonium gigs in Oulu All Star Big Band, KOLIZIO sextet, Tubhonium Duo, Dallapé orchestra, Ricky Tick Brass, SuomiLOVE orchestra and Norrbotten Big Band. As a conductor and/or soloist Myllys has collaborated with countless symphony orchestras, wind bands, brass bands, and big bands, such as Helsinki Philharmonic Orchestra, Tampere Filharmonia, Lahti Sinfonia, Oulu Sinfonia, Jyväskylä Sinfonia, The Finnish Guards Band, U.S. Army Symphony (Washington), Chicago Brass, Blue Lake Festival Orchestra, Atlanta Wind Symphony, Gävle Symphony, Stockholm Symphonic Wind Orchestra, Manger Musikklag and the Sun Life Brass Band (UK). Myllys held the position of conductor and artistic director of Kemi Symphony in 2007-2014. He has been euphonium professor at the Sibelius Academy in Helsinki since 2002. In addition, Myllys has regularly given workshops at international universities and conservatories, such as Kunitachi University Tokyo Japan, Northwestern University Chicago U.S., Emory University Atlanta U.S, Lucerne Conservatory of Music Switzerland, and Groningen Conservatory Netherlands. Myllys played the world premiere of Jukka Linkola's Euphonium Concerto. The subsequent recording of the concerto Finnish Euphonium was published in 1996. He has premiered solo pieces by several contemporary Finnish composers, such as Kalevi Aho, Uljas Pulkkis, Timo Alakotila, Juha.T. Koskinen, Kirmo Lintinen, Jukka-Pekka Lehto and Oliver Kohlenberg.
